YDS is a Turkish exam which measures a person’s foreign language proficiency. Held twice a year during spring and autumn, the exam lasts for two and a half hours and consists of 80 multiple choice questions. YDS tests a student’s Vocabulary, Grammar, Translation, Comprehension, and Reading.

YDS is available in Arabic, Bulgarian, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Russian, and Spanish.

Candidates are expected to have a foreign language score of at least 50. 10% of the YDS score is included in the general calculation during the application process. Post-graduate programs require students to have a minimum score of 55 according to the Regulation on Graduate Education.
